It isn’t that we don’t want immigrants, it is that we want immigrants who have done their homework: meaning–gone through a process to become citizens. That process includes learning to speak a modicum of English, learning and passing a test on the Constitution and becoming full taxpaying Americans who give back what they enjoy with that privilege (like Tito Munoz from Columbia). Many who are given citizenship without any of the above requirements (amnesty) and become voting citizens without having to pay income taxes or learning to speak the language, etc.—are not true Americans–but foreigners voting themselves benefits because they don’t understand the history of this great country and maintain allegiance only to their birth country.
The following paragraph is from a 2007 Heritage article, so you can increase the costs reported accordingly:
There is another cost to illegal immigration besides lower wages and lost jobs. Communities and taxpayers pay the bills for their education, health care, and government benefits. Overcrowded classrooms, long waits at hospital emergency rooms, and expensive government services result from a failure to secure our borders.
In California alone, hospitals spend over $1 billion a year on health care for illegal immigrants. And the National Research Council has found that an immigrant with less than a high school education will, over his or her lifetime, impose a cost on taxpayers of $89,000. It is unfair to force legal residents and taxpayers to continue to pick up the tab.
Some say the taxes illegal immigrants pay offset the costs of providing them education, health care, and government benefits. But, at their low wages, most illegal immigrants don’t even pay taxes. And when they do, their taxes don’t cover other government services, like maintaining highways, providing for our national defense, and taking care of the needy and elderly.
Also, at their wages, if illegal immigrants participate in Social Security, they will get back $100,000 more than they pay in, further bankrupting the system for everyone else. The cost of illegal immigration is staggering. And it is growing by the minute.
The cost of illegal immigration continues to balloon uncontrollably:
In a 2009 article by Heritage, we read that the upcoming Health Care Bill will ultimately provide health care for illegals (along with backdoor amnesty) if Obama has not achieved that goal before the Health Care Bill becomes law.
Abstract: H.R. 3962 would deliberately permit illegal aliens to participate in the government health insurance exchange and in the public option insurance program. It would nominally bar them from receiving health care “affordability credits” and most regular Medicaid benefits, but verification procedures are weak and subject to fraud. Moreover, any limitations on benefits provided to illegal immigrants under the House bill are deceptive. The President and the congressional leadership clearly intend that these limits will be only temporary, to be overturned by amnesty or “comprehensive immigration reform” legislation….
What does it actually take to become a US Citizen?
Here are requirements for becoming an US Citizen:
1.) Prove a period of continuous residence and physical presence in the United States; residence in a particular USCIS District prior to filing. If you are at least 18 years old and have been a Permanent Resident for the past 5 years without leaving the United States for trips of 6 months or longer. If you are at least 18 years old and are currently married to and living with a U.S. citizen; and have been married to and living with that same U.S. citizen for the past 3 years without leaving the United States for trips of 6 months or longer, and your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for the past 3 years.
2.) Able to read, write, and speak English and have good knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government. USCIS officers will test you up to 10 civics questions in English and you need to answer at least 6 questions correctly to pass the test.
My Note: Illegal aliens find no reason to speak English. Why would they when most needs (banking, shopping, schools, hospitals, etc.) have several languages provided.
Language is one of the major bonds that holds a nation together and distinguishes it from other nations. It is also one of the easiest things for immigrants to adopt in the process of assimilation. And if immigrants don’t adopt the language of their new country, it is very likely they have not assimilated and do not intend to assimilate. In the case of recent immigrants to this country, it is now pretty clear they are not assimilating and have no plans to get on with it…..what the linguistic anarchy now descending on the local schools, governments, economies, and culture of the nation means is that there is less and less pressure on new immigrants to assimilate at all, and more and more pressure on Americans already here to adapt themselves to what the immigrants prefer.
3.) Good moral character. To be eligible for naturalization you must be a person of good moral character.
My Note: A large percentage of illegals are involved in criminal activity:
In…Testimony of former (D) District Attorney John M. Morganelli before the House Subcommittee on immigration, Border, Security and Claims he stated:
“Unfortunately, the majority of illegal aliens who are here are engaged in criminal activity. Identity theft, use of fraudulent social security numbers and green cards, tax evasion, driving without licenses represent some of the crimes that are engaged in by the majority of illegal aliens on a daily basis merely to maintain and hide their illegal status.
In addition, violent crime and drug distribution and possession is also prevalent among illegal aliens. Over 25% of today’s federal prison population are illegal aliens. In some areas of the country, 12% of felonies, 25% of burglaries and 34% of thefts are committed by illegal aliens.”
And the criminal illegal alien often becomes a repeat offender.
3.a) If you do not tell the truth during your interview, USCIS may deny your application for lacking good moral character.
My Note: Speaking of telling the truth, the Democrat party, having designs on the 2012 White House, have been working behind the scenes to promote continued fraud (known as DFF: Democrat Fraud Factor) which has already swayed many elections toward the left (see my previous blog):
Among the communities to be organized are those with a growing number of Hispanic voters, legal and illegal. The president appears tentative on whether to expend his political capital on the immigration reform that he continues to promise. In closing his recent South American tour in El Salvador, President Obama stated he remained committed to seeking comprehensive immigration reform with a “path to citizenship” for illegal immigrants who live and have jobs in the United States. There are an estimated 2 million Salvadorians living in the United States — about a third of El Salvador’s total population. The 2010 Census report indicates that the Hispanic population of the United States has reached 50 million, making Hispanics the nation’s largest minority. States with rising Hispanic populations, such as Arizona, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, and Utah, are major players in the 2012 Obama reelection campaign, which the president initiated on April 4, 2011.
4.) Attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution and favorable disposition toward the United States.
All applicants for naturalization must be willing to support and defend the United States and our Constitution.
My Note: Those that expect Amnesty often have little respect for the country from which they’d like to receive benefits:
While the Obama regime works on backdoor amnesty, we know that any Obama Amnesty means “Undocumented Democrat Voters.” One way he is trying to do this is through the multi-attempted Dream Act passage:
Obama and the Democrats are at it again. Senators Harry Reid (D-NV), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) reintroduced the Dream Act, which would grant millions of illegal aliens citizenship. This reintroduction comes at a time with the vast majority of Americans are opposed to giving illegals citizenship. One has to look at the timing of the reintroduction; should the Dream Act pass it would grant voting rights to millions who are in this country, illegally. This would undoubtedly assure Obama’s re-election, but even more onerous is the fact this new Democratic voting block would means we may well have a Democratic administration in power for decades.
Amnesty WILL work for those who would bring this country down permanently–the president and his party–by keeping him in the position he has grown to love (loving–not America–but what the position of presidency provides him). Conservative Americans understand that Amnesty is the end of our Republic and life as we know it.
